A CHARITY has thanked a garden centre in Ponteland for its helping hand over the last 20 years.

To mark the efforts of Dobbies Garden World, which has collected thousands of pounds in donations from customers, Macmillan Cancer Support has given it a special award.

As well as check-out collection boxes, a range of events and activities have helped to raise funds, including pancake tossing, coffee mornings, raffles, tombolas and ‘guess the weight of the cake’ competitions.

They have been organised by Dobbies staff members Alex MacDonald and Aileen Henderson, who said: “We’re extremely pleased to be recognised by Macmillan for our fund-raising. Jennifer Temple of Macmillan’s Morpeth and District Committee regularly comes along to see us and she is now treated like one of the staff.”

The charity provides services for people living with cancer.
