AN enterprising woman has set up shop in Morpeth after enjoying a life at sea.
Claire Blacklock has done a few different jobs since becoming a qualified therapist, including a three-year stint on cruise ships which travelled across the Caribbean, Mediterranean and Baltic seas.
Now she has set up the Noir Massage Studio in Castle Square and is pleased to be her own boss.
The 26-year-old can do a variety of different techniques which help parts or all of the body and allow people to relax their mind.
She said: “I have always been interested in the beauty industry and I have been lucky to work in a spa type environment ever since I qualified.
“The cruise ships were hard work, but they were worth it as I got to go to lots of fantastic places.
“It was good fun, although after three years I decided that I wanted to go back to my roots.
“I then worked at Seaham Hall, a luxury hotel and spa. It was a great experience and I ended up giving massages to quite a few well-known people.
“They included Peter Reid (former England football player and Sunderland FC manager) who said it was one of the best he had ever received and his words helped give me the confidence to set up my own business.
“I had been thinking about it for a little while because I felt it was the right time in my career to become my own boss.
“I spent a few weeks looking at many different premises and none of them were quite right, but I eventually found a place I liked here in Morpeth.
“The size of the massage room is ideal and there is an established hairdressers and stylists – Image at Concepts – downstairs.
“I’m bringing the spa feel and holistic treatments to the town centre. Many people can’t afford regular full-day spa sessions or don’t have the time, so they can come here and get some of the treatments and therapies within an hour or two.
“The response on the Facebook page has been very positive so far and hopefully Noir will be seen as a hidden gem in Morpeth.”
The range of techniques on offer include deep massage, Swedish, hot stones, bamboo, lava shells and Thai.
Some beauty treatments are also available at the studio.
Miss Blacklock added: “I can provide everything from massaging big muscles after a visit to the gym to delicate facials.
“Some of the massages do not take too long, so people can come along during their lunch break.
“You feel relaxed during all the therapies and they are a big help to people who suffer from aches and pains or tension.
“Some people come out feeling full of energy, whilst others feel zonked and say it is like they have been in another world.”
