A FUNDING boost of £1,700 has been given to a national charity, thanks in part to a Morpeth business.
The Leeds Building Society has presented the cash to the Multiple Sclerosis Society to help raise awareness of the condition and support its services.
Part of the funding was raised by the group’s Morpeth branch in Bridge Street, which sold a range of retro pin badges, featuring characters from the Beano comic, for a suggested donation of £1.
Branch Manager Denise Godwin said: “We are delighted to have contributed to the overall fund-raising effort of the society by accepting donations from members of the public for the MS Society pin badges.
“People have been very generous and our staff in the branch also got into the spirit throughout the campaign.”
Multiple Sclerosis Society Corporate Partnerships Officer Sue Spencer said: “By displaying boxes of the retro character Beano pin badges, the Leeds Building Society Morpeth Branch has helped raise essential funds for our services.
“We are delighted that the society has raised £1,700 for us overall, which is a fantastic amount.”
