TOURISM issues in Northumberland have been discussed with a Government Minister for the industry.
Tourism and Heritage Minister John Penrose visited the North East last week to meet people involved in the industry and find out more about what the region has to offer.
One of those to meet Mr Penrose was Chief Executive of Northumberland Tourism Giles Ingram.
He said: “We have been working closely with VisitEngland to make sure that Northumberland continues to be effectively promoted despite recent cuts in funding for tourism.
“We’re delighted that the Minister visited the county to hear from our businesses about the challenges they face and to see the enthusiasm and innovation they apply to providing visitors with high quality, memorable experiences.”
Mr Penrose visited the Vindolanda Roman site, The Sage Gateshead and the Baltic.
His visit was planned by the Northern Tourism Alliance, which is made up of the NewcastleGateshead Initiative, Northumberland Tourism, Visit County Durham, the North East Hoteliers Association and Hadrian’s Wall Heritage.
The group aims to develop new ways of working with businesses and organisations to continue the growth of the regional visitor economy.
