PEOPLE of all ages can enjoy a taste of a Matfen brewery’s popular ale as it is being used for a new treat.
Matfen Magic has become the latest ice cream flavour to be launched from family-run dairy Wheelbirks Farm down the road in Stocksfield.
The beverage, which is made by High House Farm Brewery, has already been used as an ingredient in locally produced products such as sausages, chocolates, cakes, bread and even toiletries.
Although the ice cream is made using the beer, along with Wheelbirks Farm’s Jersey milk, the cooking process means it contains less than one percent alcohol.
Heather Scott of High House Farm Brewery said: “Wheelbirks are a fantastic Northumbrian company and Matfen Magic is an award-winning ale – it’s a perfect reason for two successful companies to work together.
“All the brewery staff and some of our customers have enthusiastically tasted the ice cream and have pronounced it really different and delicious.
“We will be selling the new ice cream at our visitor centre right throughout the summer.”
