The Prudhoe-based firm took home the accolade, sponsored by the Banks Group, for impressing judges with their green ethos.

The company has been lauded for its work to reduce its carbon footprint by using recycled materials, and provided some of the concrete used at the London 2012 Olympic Games - helping lower the carbon footprint there.

Commercial director Tony Kay said: “It is nice to be acknowledged for trying to push the boundaries of what is quite a mundane industry.

“We are trying to challenge the way people think of concrete and make something that sparkles. We are in a boring industry but we are trying to challenge it to be innovative and create products that are there to challenge the way we think about concrete.” Beacon Hill Farm Holidays, Laverick Law Cottages, and Reheat (Renewable Technologies) were also shortlisted.
