An independent travel firm run by a Morpeth family has achieved £10,000 worth of consultancy help in a nationwide competition.

Northumbria Travel, based in Bedlington, won the prize from Advantage Travel Centre. It will receive help with furthering the IT, marketing, finance and compliance of the business.

Director Jane Gibson said: “I was through to the final three and I had to go to the Dragons Den style interview in London and present myself and the company.

“We have been established for more than 30 years, which is some feat these days, so this consultancy will help move our business forward.

“As a company we are always growing, so this will help a well established firm to develop further and allow us to improve the IT side of the business, which will include further enhancing our website to make it more interactive.”

She added: “I throw everything into this and am so driven and passionate about taking the company forward.

“I think the fact that I know this business inside and out came across to the panel.”

Beryl and David Gibson set up Northumbria Travel in 1984 and Jane, their daughter, joined the company five years later.

As well as providing unbiased advice, a range of attractive offers are available for cruises, city breaks, long weekends in the countryside and two-week holidays with a tour operator.
