A FASHION store has more to offer after a Morpeth woman joined the family business.
Emily Barr has helped out at Kathryn S Trueman Bridal & Occasions in the past and now she has her very own section at the Bridge Street outlet.
Demoiselle Lingerie provides lingerie and garters to go under wedding dresses and evening gowns. There are a range of styles, from basque to chemises.
Mrs Barr is married to Mrs Trueman’s son Adam Barr, 30, who runs his Adamskii photography business in the same building.
Some of the garments made an eye-catching appearance at a fashion show to mark the launch of Demoiselle Lingerie.
A solicitor by trade, Mrs Barr, 31, went on maternity leave last June and later gave birth to son Archie.
“During this period, I was given the opportunity to take voluntary redundancy and I took it because Kath was keen for me to manage things with her and introduce the lingerie side to the business,” she said.
“We’ve had many requests from brides-to-be asking if we have comfortable lingerie under the wedding dress because it’s difficult to find, so there was a strong business case to add this section.
“The lingerie and corsets upstairs are for the honeymoon and special occasions, so the designs are sexier.
“Some of these garments were displayed by burlesque models at the fashion show. The audience weren’t expecting to see them and although it was quite a shock, they went down very well.
“I start working there four days a week next month and I’m really looking forward to working in partnership with Kath. We have different strengths, which will help us to drive things forward.
“We also have KBeautique, run by Kate Sparrow, in the building and we’re in talks with some outside suppliers we know well about a few things because our aim is to offer an almost whole wedding package at a discounted price.
“It’s great that I have my own section of the business that I can develop by myself and this career change gives me greater flexibility in looking after Archie.”
Mrs Barr added that her legal knowledge will come in useful with the day-to-day running of the business.
