A MORPETH-BASED business is making its mark overseas.
Inspire People Group’s trip to Canada has seen it form some partnerships with consultancy firms.
And through one of these link-ups, it is helping one of the North American country’s provinces to function more efficiently.
With support from UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), founding partner Graham Cook attended a Healthcare Leaders Conference in Vancouver and met with senior figures from the sector.
He also spoke to key players in the Canadian consultancy industry and as a result companies are delivering its human resource (HR) programmes that develop the people and strategy skills of managers and other employees.
One such alliance is with Westmark Consulting, which is using the Inspire People Group’s model as part of its work with the Saskatchewan province’s government. In terms of employees, the authority is a similar size to Northumberland County Council.
Mr Cook said: “Using the UKTI offices in Vancouver worked very well as they gave me a full diary when I was out there.
“We have to be realistic as we are a small company and are not going to get a public sector tender in another country ourselves.
“But we are increasing our turnover by adapting our programmes that have worked in Northumberland and Newcastle for the big boys, who pay us a fee to deliver them on our behalf.
“Canada is an English-speaking country and there are similarities in how its public sector is run with the UK — for example the health services in many of the provinces are based on the NHS – which provide a range of opportunities for British businesses.”
UKTI is offering firms from across the north east, including SMEs, the chance to visit Canada between November 6 and 11.
The visit will be centred in Toronto, although it will be flexible so that delegates will have the freedom to follow their own itineraries in other key business centres such as Montreal or Calgary.
