Drinks’ factory workers in Morpeth quenched their thirst for sport as they hosted a national tournament.

The Unified Sports Tournament was organised by Coca-Cola Enterprises (CCE) near its Coopies Lane plant.

It saw CCE workers from Morpeth, East Kilbridge and Wakefield compete with athletes from Special Olympics Great Britain (SOGB) clubs at six-a-side football, badminton, carpet bowls and boccia.

The Unified Sports initiative, run by the Special Olympics, promotes social inclusion through shared sport experiences for people with and without learning disabilities.

Morpeth Deputy Mayor Alison Byard and Special Olympics GB Director of Volunteering and Community Engagement Gaye Barber were guests of honour and presented the medals, while Morpeth Lions and local SOGB clubs were on hand to act as referees.
