A COMMUNITY confectionery venture is enjoying the sweet taste of success after winning £50,000 of funding.
Trust in the North, which is based at Lynemouth Resource Centre, has secured £50,000 from Santander in the Social Enterprise Development Awards.
The money will be used to buy new equipment and improve sales expertise for its Kenspeckle fudge and chocolate-making business, and organisers hope to triple its staff from three to nine over the next two years.
The scheme will have access to Santander mentoring programmes, funding for internships and business courses and other training.
There will also be input from the Community Foundation Tyne and Wear and Northumberland to assess the social impact of the business and the prize fund on the area.
Trust in the North Manager Andrew Gooding said: “We are really proud of what we have achieved so far with Kenspeckle, but there is so much more we want to do.
“The award from Santander and the relationship we hope to build with it will enable us to build new markets, grow our business and most importantly, employ and train more local people.”
