A massive investment programme for a luxury Northumberland hotel is entering its second phase.
Matfen Hall, which is the ancestral home of the Blackett family, is one of the county’s leading leisure, conference and wedding destinations.
And its offer is being further enhanced with a £450,000 improvement scheme.
Owners Sir Hugh and Lady Blackett have already invested around £150,000 in refurbishing the hotel’s fitness suite to provide state-of-the-art Technogym equipment, excite cardio kit featuring the Unity console, six Kinesis stations and an ARKE area to target the origins of movement.
In addition, £160,000 has been spent on golf course maintenance equipment, complementing the existing machinery with the latest electric hybrid green mowers.
Now a further £150,000 is to be invested in introducing a new range of thermal experiences to the spa.
The project will create an aromatherapy room, steam room offering almost 100 per cent humidity to cleanse and stimulate circulation, traditional sauna, experience showers providing soft tropical rain or ice cold bucket shower, and an ice fountain.
Manager Director of the 53-bedroom hotel Bernard Bloodworth said: “This is a very exciting time at Matfen with this investment creating a lot of interest, not only regionally, but nationally too.”
