A CHILDREN’S clothing shop that has served Morpeth families for decades is set to close.

Snows in Bridge Street will close later this year as its owners begin a new chapter in their lives.

Michelle Craig and Sarah Fletcher took on the long-established business ten years ago when they were both just 21.

The pair have loved their time in the shop, but with Mrs Fletcher due to have a baby, they have decided that now is the time to move on.

She said: “It is sad from the point of view that we have been here ten years, but it is the right time for us.

“Our personal circumstances have changed and we are ready to start a new chapter in our lives. It is just time to let it go.

“For the last ten years the business has been all we had to think about, but our lives have changed and it doesn’t fit in with our lifestyles any more.

“When you have a business it has to be your priority.”

The business partners, who have been friends since the age of 11, say the hardest thing about closing will be missing their customers.

“We are sad to go because we have met so many lovely people. People who we have met through the shop we class as friends now, not customers,” said Mrs Fletcher.

“We really want to thank them because they have supported us for as long as we have been here.”

Miss Craig said: “When we started the shop it was quite daunting, but we have had a wonderful time. We have put our heart and soul into it

“With Sarah having a baby it will be nice to spend time with her as a friend, rather than a colleague. We see each other every day, but it is work. We can’t just go for a coffee so I’m looking forward to that.”

The owners, who are also closing their online Urban Urchins store, hope that the shop will now pass into new hands.

A closing-down sale starts this week.
