A CAFE business in Ponteland is going from strength to strength after launching a year ago.

Jan Metcalfe decided to take on the then-vacant building in Bell Villas and it was extensively refurbished before Jan’s Kitchen opened last summer. An extension was also added at the back to provide more kitchen space and an easy-access toilet.

It has since built up a loyal clientele and footfall continues to rise.

“I now employ six local girls to cover the different shifts and train them on the job,” said Mrs Metcalfe.

“All the food we serve is home-made on the premises and the customers appreciate this.”

As well as every kind of hot drink, full breakfasts, light lunches, scones and cakes are available and the cafe still maintains its traditional links with cyclists.
