A new vet has joined the team at a cutting-edge equine treatment centre in Morpeth.
Kate Smith has joined Alnorthumbria Fairmoor Centre as an equine vet after ten years’ experience in the field.
Ms Smith graduated from Glasgow University in 2004 and took up an internship in a large equine hospital in Arundel, West Sussex, where she was responsible for post-op care of in-patients and anaesthesia.
She has worked at MBM Veterinary Group in Ayrshire for the past nine years as part of the equine team and was awarded an RCVS Certificate in Equine Practice.
Her new role will see her based at the Fairmoor centre, which is one of the most sophisticated equine hospitals in the North of England, but she will work across the region as part of Alnorthumbria, the largest veterinary practice in Northumberland.
“I can’t remember life before horses,” she said.
“I grew up around them and took part in pony club and riding club activities, and then evented until I went to vet school. I enjoy working at the race course and have already been the on-duty vet at Newcastle Race Course. I will also cover and help to support some of the region’s Point to Points and horse trials.
“I am really excited to be part of such an enthusiastic, caring team and look forward to meeting all my new patients, and their owners.”
Senior Equine Vet Lesley Barwise Munro said: “We are really pleased that Kate is joining the team.
“Northumberland is the home of the horse and we are pleased to be able to include a vet of Kate’s calibre and experience. She’s going to be a tremendous asset.”
