Each month, one of the traders at the weekly Wednesday market in Morpeth tell their story. Next up is Benny’s Toon Macaroons.
Ben Haslam has ‘reinvented the old fashioned macaroon’ with his own regional spin on a popular traditional sweet treat.
After starting up 12 months ago, Benny’s Toon Macaroons has established a strong presence in the North East confectionery market. It quickly managed to bag a place in the centre of the food hall at the Fenwick store in Newcastle.
The business prides itself on these delicious creations, not only for their mouth watering flavours but also for being among the healthiest sweet treats available.
Benny’s are all made with high quality ingredients and fresh milk – rather than condensed – in the same way traditional macaroons are made.
Mr Haslam, a regular at the weekly Morpeth Market, said: “I believe in making the best quality macaroons from the best ingredients I can find.
“Being so passionate about my business means I want to provide my customers with a mouth-watering treat that will make them want to keep coming back for more.”
Constantly experimenting with different combinations, he always has an extensive range of different flavours available at his stall.
The popular macaroons include Benny’s Chocolate Orange Delight, which is made with fresh oranges and three different types of chocolate, and banana and caramel. If the selection is too overwhelming, there is always a Flavour of the Week.
Morpeth Market is managed by Northumberland County Council and Sanderson Arcade, working in partnership with Morpeth Town Council, the Morpeth Chamber of Trade and other organisations.
