Chamber is on the publicity offensive

A busy business group is going into a publicity overdrive to spread the word on Morpeth.

The Morpeth and District Chamber of Trade will launch a three-pronged attack this month to show the public what the town has to offer, as well as raise awareness of its work among local businesses.

At its monthly meeting, the group approved a £2,000 budget to promote the town.

Leaflets will be distributed in Ponteland, Gosforth, Newcastle Great Park and Jesmond, and there will be newspaper advertising at least once a month until Christmas in south east Northumberland and North Tyneside, reminding people that Morpeth now benefits from free parking.

In addition, the chamber has pledged its support for the Morpeth Food and Drink Festival, which will be held for the second time on Saturday, October 4.

The business group has donated about 400 More In Morpeth bags to festival organisers to sell for £1, and it will also give £500 to sponsor production of the programme leaflet.

Chamber spokesman John Beynon said: “We think this festival is going to be great for the town. It should bring a lot of people in and all of the food outlets, the pubs, restaurants and cafés, can advertise in the leaflet if they are going to have special offers on for the weekend. It should benefit the whole town.

“Hopefully, with these initiatives we will get massive coverage around the county from this month right the way through to Christmas.”

The chamber will also invest in a glossy booklet for businesses, outlining its aims and activities in the area.

Mr Beynon said: “We feel that a lot of people, unless they read the Morpeth Herald, don’t know what the chamber does so we are putting out this newsletter. It will go to every business in the town, from shops to offices.”
