A MORPETH business is among the cream of the crop for customer comments on a well-known website.
After moving back to her home town from Jersey last decade, April Atkinson opened La Bodega Tapas Bar in 2008.
It has built up a good reputation for its food and live music events and now it has been recognised by TripAdvisor, a site where people can post their opinions on restaurants, hotels and other food and leisure facilities.
The eatery in Newgate Street has been awarded a certificate of excellence. This title is given to select firms which have consistently positive feedback over a period of time and are among the top 10 per cent for overall rating worldwide.
Mrs Atkinson said: “I have been in catering for most of my life and I wanted my own place for years.
“I decided to try running a Mediterranean style cafe bar and at first I ignored this place when it was available, but when it came up for lease again, I decided to have a look and I was immediately hooked.
“We’ve worked hard since we opened to build up a decent reputation. People coming along can enjoy a lovely ambience and a great service and we don’t cut corners on quality, so we only use the best ingredients and drinks and we make all the food and sauces ourselves.
“It’s a bit nerve-wracking when you search for comments about your own business, so we’re thrilled that we’ve received so many positive comments from Morpeth residents and visitors to the town who have given us a try.
“They have praised our great food, welcoming atmosphere and the background and live music among other things and one couple said they ‘felt really special’.”
She added that now La Bodega is established, she is hoping to find bigger premises in the town to provide room for functions and private meetings.
