A Morpeth-based garage equipment supplier has supplied Benfield Motor Group with the vital tools to deliver its new £5.8million dealership.

The new facility in Sunderland includes a state-of-the-art workshop, which was fitted out by Gott Technical Services.

The 920sq m workshop offers the latest vehicle service and automated MOT test lane technology and as a result, Benfield can provide its full after-sales service from the Ford dealership.

Gott Technical Services director Ian Gott said: “The contract with Benfield is a great addition to our expanding portfolio of business in Sunderland.

“We worked alongside its team to produce an innovative facility that has two automated test lanes in place.

“Typically, an MOT station will have one bay but we are seeing more main dealers opting for an additional bay to increase testing capacity, as in this case.

“The workshop is also uniquely equipped with a vehicle lift that can hold up to 6.5 tonnes – there are not many dealerships that have lifts for vehicles exceeding five tonnes so Benfield will be able to competitively serve local businesses as a result.”

The company, which has its headquarters in Coopies Lane, has a long-standing relationship with the motor group. Benfield had been successfully operating a temporary ‘pop up’ showroom on the Newcastle Road site since 2012, which was also a joint project between the two family-run firms.

Benfield Ford general manager Terry O’Neil said the group was very pleased with Gott’s work, which was delivered on time, within budget and to a high specification.
