Helen Smith is eyeing up a bright future at Specsavers as a qualified contact lens optician.

A MORPETH optician’s future career is looking clear as she has taken the first steps to qualifying as a fully trained contact lens fitter.

Helen Smith, manager of the Morpeth Specsavers branch, is studying for her professional Contact Lens Diploma to add to her existing managerial and optical dispensing qualifications.

She will be working towards the diploma over the next two years, juggling her position running the Bridge Street store with her on-the-job training and professional industry studies to boost her skills and the level of service that she provides to customers.

Morpeth Specsavers will be one of only a handful of stores to have staff with the qualification and this latest move will enable the 24-year-old to benefit from a quality training programme that is also linked directly to her professional development.

Director Ross Jennings said: “We want our customers to benefit from staff who are fully trained, properly qualified and highly skilled, so I’m personally thrilled about Helen’s commitment to boosting her experience and expertise.

“We pride ourselves in offering employees the opportunity to pursue careers with real opportunities.”

Industry recognised qualifications like the Contact Lens Diploma are important professional awards for anyone keen to pursue a career as an optician.

Helen said: “Ross and my colleagues are being so supportive and extremely encouraging.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to boost my career and be able to better help customers with their contact lenses – it’s a huge step forward for me.”
