A BREWERY run by a Widdrington couple has won a national award for one of its products.
Anarchy Brew Co took the gold in the strong beers category at the Society of Independent Brewers Beer X competition last week for its Sublime Chaos beer.
And for Dawn and Simon Miles, who run the brewery at Whitehouse Farm Centre, Stannington, it is the second national award in its two years of production.
Last year the couple scooped a silver award, but this year they took the title.
It has also made its mark on the regional craft ale scene, including the successful staging of its ‘Mash Up Festival’ last August.
Mrs Miles said: “We are not that bothered about competitions but it is nice to get the recognition.
“We weren’t there last year so it was great to be there and have everyone coming up and congratulating us.
“I don’t know if it does much for the business but it is nice to be recognised in the industry. The business is going really well and what we are producing now is what we had expected to be doing in year four or five. But we’re in year two so we have really exceeded ourselves.
“We’ve had to expand the brewery twice already and we are hoping to take on another unit at the farm as well.”
