Working on weight loss

A BUSY mum is using her first-hand experience of weight loss to help others shed the pounds.

Karen Fenwick joined Slimming World’s Northumberland team as a consultant for the Dudley group after seeing the results of the scheme for herself.

Her classes were such a success that she has now given up full-time work and opened another group in Ponteland.

However, just a few years ago she could never have imagined the path her career would take.

Mrs Fenwick started putting on weight after having her two children and, while she was keen to take up training to lose it, she lacked the confidence to get started, until a family wedding gave her the push she needed.

“I was totally humiliated attending the wedding and felt ashamed that I had got to this size,” she said.

“That was my turning point.”

Mrs Fenwick joined a Slimming World group in May 2011 and by the following April she had lost five stone, thanks to support from her consultant, other group members and family.

She felt healthier, had more energy to play with her children, and was so impressed by the scheme that she started running a group in Dudley. She now also holds a session at Ponteland Memorial Hall every Wednesday, at 7.30pm.

She said: “I am looking forward to being able to support members in Ponteland and help them on their weight loss journey to reach their personal target without being judged or humiliated, just lots of support and a warm welcome.

“I wish I had found Slimming World sooner so I could have had the confidence to start my Slimming World career a long time ago.”
