Young people in Northumberland paid a visit to a mining site to find out more about the world of work.

Employability charity Tomorrow’s People organised the visit to Banks Mining’s Shotton surface mine near Blagdon for young people from Morpeth, Ashington and Alnwick.

The outing was part of a ten-week Working It Out programme for unemployed 16 to 24-year-olds, which aimed to give confidence, motivation and prepare participants for future work and training.

The party heard presentations on mining operations, site management and restoration, and spoke to staff about how they had developed their careers in the industry.
