A businesswoman is hoping she’s not barking up the wrong tree with her latest initiative.

Tiggy Mable’s, an old-fashioned sweet shop and tearoom at Stannington’s Whitehouse Farm, has created a special dog menu for its canine customers.

The new business’s owner, Andi Johnson, of Wideopen in North Tyneside, decided that dogs deserve a bit of a bite to eat while their owners chat over cup-cakes and a cuppa, and she has now put that idea into practice.

The 38-year-old said: “I came up with a menu which includes pup cakes, doggy beer, cream cookies, scones and fudge all made here in the tearoom and all suitable for dogs, because we are dog-friendly and I’m a dog lover.

“I have Winnie, and she is part of my family. People can take their children places, and they choose from kids’ menus, so why not dogs?”

Staff from Tiggy Mable’s will be taking part in a Christmas market at Hoults Yard in Newcastle’s Walker Road this weekend. It’s on tomorrow from 5pm and on Saturday from noon, finishing at midnight on both days. Entry is £5.
