A family-owned business offering bespoke engineering solutions to companies worldwide has won a prestigious business award.

RDP Metalworks has seen steady growth over the last couple of years, and is this week celebrating after picking up the Small Business of the Year Award at this year’s Northumberland Business Awards.

The Cramlington-based firm has enjoyed success in the last 18 months when it was chosen to produce the brass chandeliers that were used in the opening of the Commonwealth Games.

Managing director Dave Kirkpatrick said: “I’m over the moon to win this award.

“We try our best and we give the best service and the best quality, I think that’s what sets us apart.

“We made the chandeliers for the Commonwealth Games, which was such an honour for Cramlington, for Northumberland and for England.”

Judges described the winner as a hugely encouraging company, which they thought would not be ranked as a small business for too much longer.

The award was sponsored by NBSL. Re-heat, Miner Wear and Complete Business Supplies were also shortlisted.
