A BUSINESS run by a Stannington couple has been nominated for a prestigious national industry award.

Premier Meats, which officially opened its state-of-the art Kingston Park facility in March, is shortlisted in the Butcher’s Plus category of the Butcher’s Shop of the Year Awards.

Husband and wife team Mark and Celina Whittaker established the company 24 years ago. It operates another butchery facility at the Team Valley Trading Estate and attends 11 local markets per week throughout the region.

The business also supplies a range of high quality produce to restaurants and hotels.

Mr Whittaker is delighted to make the final shortlist only eight months after the marquee premises were opened.

“I’m thrilled we’ve been shortlisted for this prestigious award,” he said.

“We’ve invested in a modern purpose-built top of the range facility and have an excellent team of staff providing the highest level of customer service.

“The Premier Meats brand is well recognised within the region and being nominated for a Butcher’s Shop of the Year Awards category will help further lift our profile.

“We aim to source local produce whenever possible and I’m therefore pleased for our regional suppliers as well as our loyal customers,”

The Kingston Park site is a one-stop-shop facility, open seven days per week, and it also incorporates refrigeration units, cutting rooms and office facilities.
