A MORPETH tea party has served up a treat for charity after raising £600.
Rutherfords of Morpeth hosted the event at its in-store coffee shop last week in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The Blooming Great Tea Party was organised by Bournemouth University business student James Dove, who has been on a 12-month placement at the Bridge Street store.
Staff dished out 300 cups of tea or coffee and 300 slices of cake. A total of £554 was collected from the sale of tickets and collection boxes, and Rutherfords rounded it up to £600.
The money will help the charity to support terminally ill people in their homes, with £20 paying for an hour of nursing care.
Rutherfords owner Richard Rutherford said: “This is the first time we’ve done anything like this and it went superbly well.
“People were coming in all afternoon and they really seemed to enjoy it.
“We would like to thank our customers for supporting the event and for making it such a big success.”
