A PONTELAND supermarket has played its part in helping to feed people in need.

Customers at the Sainsbury’s store in Bell Villas were asked to take part in a national one-day food collection by buying an extra item in their shopping.

They were invited to choose from a variety of long-life foodstuffs, such as tins, dried pasta, rice, tea and coffee, and the donated items were then delivered to local charities and community projects by the charity FareShare.

The initiative involved more than 600 Sainsbury’s stores nationwide following a successful trial event at 19 outlets in July.
