THE best of British food products from local suppliers will be available to sample at a garden centre near Morpeth over the next few weeks.
Heighley Gate Nursery and Garden Centre is an official partner of Love British Food and it will be providing tastings for customers on selected dates.
They include Cottage Delight on Saturday, from 11am to 3pm, with a range of jams, chutneys, biscuits and sauces.
Representatives from Chain Bridge Honey will be coming along with some natural beeswax products on Saturday, August 11, and Sunday, August 12, between 11am and 3pm. All of the honey comes from hives situated throughout Northumberland and the Scottish Borders.
Free recipe leaflets will be handed out to customers encouraging them to recreate meals using quality British ingredients and adults can take part in a competition running across outlets in The Garden Centre Group.
They need to come up with their favourite British recipe and say why they love it so much. It will then be recreated for the winner and seven of their friends in a garden centre restaurant, as well as featuring on the menu in all of the group’s restaurants.
A total of 12 runners-up will receive a lunch for two at their nearest garden centre.
There is also a children’s competition which asks them to draw and decorate their perfect cake on an entry form. The winner will receive a My Picnic set for them and 20 friends at one of the restaurants and the winning design will be baked by a chef for the winner to share.
The two runners-up will each win a My Picnic set for them and five friends.
Entries must be handed in at Heighley Gate by Friday, August 31, at 4.30pm. For more information, telephone 01670 513416.
