Scheme comes top of the class

A LONG-RUNNING Lynemouth apprenticeship scheme has come top of its class in an awards ceremony.

Rio Tinto Alcan has been named Northumberland College’s Apprenticeship Employer of the Year.

The award was presented at a celebration dinner at the college’s Kirkley Hall campus to mark National Apprenticeship Week and show the value of work training placements to businesses.

The Lynemouth aluminium plant has worked with the college for more than 35 years to train apprentices in mechanical and electronic engineering, welding and fabrication and motor engineering.

It was nominated for the award by Curriculum Leader for Engineering Muhsin Jumaa.
