Scheme helping horses and the environment

COUNTY residents with horses can save money on routine veterinary work through a new travel scheme.

The Alnorthumbria Veterinary Group is offering Free Equine Zone visits to almost the whole of Northumberland, Tyne and Wear and northern Durham.

This means that on a regular day each week you will be able to book a visit within this area and not incur a visit charge.

The service is available for routine dental procedures, vaccinations, micro-chipping and short examinations.

Equine Director at Alnorthumbria, Lesley Barwise-Munro, said: “This scheme is allowing us to work more efficiently and reduce the cost to our clients of routine preventative horse healthcare.

“It has also enabled us to reduce our vets’ carbon footprint by allowing them to concentrate their working day in one area, thereby reducing their fuel consumption.”

Another initiative being offered by the company is Horse Health Plans. There are three available – gold, silver and bronze.

Each one provides your horse with an annual health check, routine dental procedures and vaccinations for flu or flu/tetanus.

You may also opt for worm egg counts and a blood sample and profile to ensure that your horse does not have underlying health issues.

Alnorthumbria says the plans offer substantial savings on regular routine healthcare.
