Sign up to keep tabs on wildlife

FARMERS in Northumberland are being invited to sign up for a free wildlife survey scheme.

The Volunteer and Farmer Alliance is offering participants the no-strings-attached free survey of breeding birds on their land, which could help them access more funding.

An RSPB volunteer will visit the farm to survey the different species of birds and the results are plotted on a map that can help farmers target their work to benefit wildlife.

The data can also be used to bolster applications for wildlife-friendly grant schemes, such as the Higher Level Stewardship.

In the North East this year, 111 species were recorded across 35 farms.
