A NEW champion of Northumberland’s marine environment has come into force.
The Northumberland Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority (NIFCA) replaces the Northumberland Sea Fisheries Committee, which has managed and regulated inshore fisheries since 1890.
Staff and officers have transferred to NIFCA, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise.
Chief Executive Mike Hardy said: “Our role is to lead, champion and manage a sustainable marine environment by successfully securing the right balance between social, environmental and economic benefits to ensure healthy seas, sustainable fisheries and a viable industry.”
