LEISURE centres in Morpeth and Ponteland have a new man at the helm.
Ian Hamlet has been appointed Contract Manager for the Leisure Connection-run facilities.
The role will involve overseeing the management of both centres, supporting staff and liaising with customers.
Mr Hamlet brings 25 years experience to the post, having started his leisure career as a part-time lifeguard at a Doncaster swimming pool during the school holidays.
He went on to work for councils, trusts and private companies and most recently worked for Bay Leisure as General Manager of The LC in Swansea.
Mr Hamlet said: “I am really excited about my new role as Contract Manager for Leisure Connection. I am looking forward to growing our membership base and working hard to communicate with the community and make it aware of what our centres can offer.
“At both Morpeth and Ponteland we boast fantastic pool facilities and I am particularly keen to further position both centres as the best place for the local communities to go swimming.”
Leisure Connection Regional Manager Mike Darlison welcomed Mr Hamlet to the team.
He said: “It’s brilliant to have someone of Ian’s experience join Leisure Connection. There isn’t a leisure centre role that Ian has not done over the course of his career, giving him an unparalleled knowledge of both day-to-day management and the centres’ role in local communities.
“People look to their leisure centres to provide fun family activity and nobody understands that more than Ian.”
