Thousands of helping hands

A RETIREMENT home provider in Ponteland has handed over £60,000 to children’s charity Barnardo’s.

McCarthy and Stone, which offers assisted living apartments in Henderson Court, North Road, presented the cheque as a result of national fund-raising efforts over the past year.

Staff and residents across the country have run, cycled and kayaked, as well as donated toys, dressed up and hosted coffee mornings.

Regional Sales and Marketing Director Fiona Brooks said: “The response from both our staff and our residents over the last 12 months has been phenomenal.

“Barnardo’s is a fantastic organisation, helping millions of children across the UK living below the poverty line.

“The bringing together of different generations – McCarthy and Stone as a champion of later living and Barnardo’s as a champion for children – seemed to really resonate with people and we have enjoyed significant support from many individuals to help us achieve our target.”

Barnardo’s Corporate Relationship Manager Helena Burley said: “We are so grateful to each person who has helped raise the funds to make this partnership a real success.”
