School pupils were the VIP guests at a luxury hotel as it tried out its family-friendly ideas.

Matfen Hall Hotel, Golf and Spa invited youngsters from Stamfordham First School to meet its new characters Fergus the Frog, Connie the Cow and Dotty the Duck.

The trio were created by Amelia Blackett and illustrate everything from children’s menus to pool family hours and a specially-designed Easy Golf course.

The pupils were given a talk on health eating by Executive Head Chef Paul Blakey and tried out giant outdoor games, such as snakes and ladders and Jenga.

They also received a hotel family pack, including a cuddly toy, finger puppet, colouring book and crayons.

The 53-bed hotel also offers CRB-checked baby-sitters.
