BUSINESSES and developers in Northumberland are being urged to bid for a share of a regional fund that will help to create new jobs.

The North Eastern Local Enterprise Partnership (NELEP) secured the £16.7million cash boost from the Government’s Growing Places Fund last month.

The money has been allocated to kick-start growth by unlocking infrastructure, housing and economic development schemes which have stalled.

Bidders will need to show that their plans fit with NELEP strategic priorities, such as improving key economic areas and strengthening transport, connectivity and infrastructure.

They must also demonstrate that they have match-funding in place and are in a position to start from the date of approval, private sector involvement or the means of unlocking wider private sector development and economic activity and the necessary planning permissions, legal consent and land ownership in place.

NELEP Chairman Paul Woolston said: “The Growing Places Fund is a welcome boost and it’s certainly timely.

“We are looking for organisations and businesses to come forward with capital schemes which will help create new jobs and economic growth by unlocking the potential of projects stalled in the current economic climate.”

Those interested have until Friday, March 23, to submit their proposals.
