Views sought for new study

ALL those affected by the closure of Rio Tinto Alcan’s smelter are invited to put forward their views and experiences for a new study.

Northumberland County Council, along with Wansbeck CVS and C4C, have brought in researchers from Durham University to do a piece of work.

They are looking to hear from workers, subcontractors, local businesses, family members, organisations and community groups so they have evidence relating to the social and economic impacts of the decision to shut down the facility.

All submissions will be anonymous and treated in absolute confidence.

Questions will also cover the support that has been offered so far and what help could be provided that is not in place at the moment.

Those who would like to take part in the study can drop in to Lynemouth Resource Centre in Bridge Road, or Wansbeck CVS in Station Road, Ashington, or call 01670 858688 to find out more.

Alternatively, they can get in touch directly with the researchers Gordon Allinson or Maxine Houston on 0191 334 3340, or e-mail g.f.allinson@durham.ac.uk or m.u.houston@durham.ac.uk
