Will it be a collar, or a ruff?

Some may say its barking mad, but pooch pampering is the order of the day for a new Morpeth business.

Mother and daughter Hazel and Alexandria Coulson have teamed up to open a new town centre boutique, where the clients come with four legs and a waggy tail.

Urban Pooch, in Newgate Street, will stock high quality fashion accessories especially for dogs.

The shop was the brainchild of 18-year-old A-Level student Alexandria, who struggled to find the quality accessories she wanted for her blue French bulldog Ivy, Manchester terrier Lola and Jack Russell Toby.

Mum Hazel said: “Having recently bought a blue French bulldog, my daughter and I decided Ivy needed a special collar and lead. To our disappointment, we struggled to find what we were looking for.

“We wanted something a little special for what we think is a very special pup.”

The boutique will stock brands such as ChromeBones, Canagan Feed and Mutts and Hounds, and hopes to launch its own range soon.

Alexandria said: “More and more dog owners are becoming enthusiastic about high quality accessories for their pets. They also want access to good quality feed and options for healthy living, and to this end we’ll be stocking a range of high quality, grain-free feed and nearly-ready meals.”

Urban Pooch will open tomorrow, with refreshments on hand for owners and dogs.
