A would-be MP has called for action to clean up Northumberland’s highways.

Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Berwick Julie PÖrksen has written to the county council and the Highways Agency urging them to clear up debris on verges, including roadworks, old signs and general rubbish.

She said: “The state of our roads is an issue raised frequently with me by local residents concerned about both potholes and the state of the verges, which are not only unsightly, but distracting when driving. Our roads do not create a good impression.”
