A NEW charity chief is leading from the front when it comes to fund-raising.
Martin Howe has been appointed Chief Executive of Age UK Northumberland.
And barely has he had time to settle into the role when he is off to Edinburgh to complete a fund-raising marathon for the charity.
Mr Howe is a keen long-distance runner and has completed a marathon before, but not for a few years.
He said: “Obviously as Chief Executive of Age UK Northumberland I am passionate about the work that the charity does to ensure that older people in the county are enabled to live a comfortable and healthier older age, but to be able to do this work Age UK Northumberland needs to raise considerable funds each year.
“With this in mind I thought I would dust down my trainers and get back out there on the long-distance running and try to raise some funds.
“Being new in post I was also keen to show our hardworking staff and volunteers that their new Chief Executive realises the importance of fund-raising for unrestricted income that enables us to enhance existing services and develop new and innovative services.”
The marathon takes place on Sunday. Mr Howe hopes to raise at least £500. To sponsor him visit www.justgiving.com/martinhowe2
