A SUPER slimmer from Pegswood is enjoying her new shape after losing nearly seven stone in less than a year.

Cheryl Bonham started her fat burning plan after becoming a mum to Joshua, who is now 15 months old.

The 29-year-old said her eating got out of control after she left home as a young adult — at her largest she was nearly 20 stone.

But it was struggling to bend over and put baby Joshua into his cot that made her decide it really was time to change.

Mrs Bonham said: “I was too fat to bath Joshua properly, I couldn’t get close enough to the bath or put him into his cot.

“I wanted to be a good mum and my family were all really worried about me. I felt my weight was starting to affect other people and stopping us doing things as a family.”

She had started a healthy eating plan to kick start the weight loss and dropped from 18 stone to 17 stone 3lb during her pregnancy.

But Mrs Bonham wanted to get down to a healthy weight as soon as possible and so she joined ladies-only gym Energie at Morpeth’s Sanderson Arcade last spring.

After making excellent progress, she is now a trim 10-and-a-half stone.

Before losing the weight she was morbidly obese with a body mass index (BMI) of 41. It is currently a healthy 24 and she is determined to keep up the good work with exercise classes four times a week.

“Everyone is so supportive and encouraging and all the staff are just great,” added Mrs Bonham, who works part-time as a probation service officer.

“I like the classes best because they really motivate me.”

Husband Dave and all her family are really proud of her determination and staff at the gym say she is an inspiration to all their members.

Manager at Energie Michelle Kelly said: “It’s great to see Cheryl in the gym, she’s got loads more confidence and she looks amazing.

“We’ve got her before and after pictures on our wall of achievement to show other people what they can achieve.”
