Morpeth Kids’ Chess Club
The Morpeth Kids’ Chess Club, held at The Waterford Lodge every Tuesday and Thursday, from 3.20pm to 5.20pm, is going from strength to strength.
The latest Summer Chess Tournament proved very competitive among 20 local children, all pitting their minds against each other.
The club, run by Fide Chess Master Charlie Storey, organises an ongoing three-weekly tournament, with kids playing two rounds per week, and a chess fun club that fits around the serious concentration tournament.
It is well known that chess aids concentration ability that can then be applied to school work.
Anybody wishing to try it can simply turn up at The Waterford Lodge Function Room, where they will be warmly welcomed into the club to learn the game and make new friends.
Here is the Waterford Kids Chess Club completed tournament:
Club Champion: Tom McKenna
Gold: Alice Heaton
Silver: Maisie Nelson
Silver: Milly Bates
Bronze: Cameron Philips
Bronze: Tom Robson
The final Summer Chess Championship at Waterford Lodge Kids’ Chess Club has concluded and produced a new champion, Cameron Philips.
Gold medal position was taken by Maisie Nelson, silver by Alice Heaton, with Tom McKenna taking bronze. The youngsters all loved the chess tournament almost as much as their medals.
Mr Storey has been to Aberystwyth in Wales for two weeks playing in the British Chess Championship for the chance to win the first prize of £5,000.
In the summer holidays, there is a three-day Chess Camp, running on August 5, 6 and 7, with chess training and multiple type chess tournaments delivered by official chess masters for all children in Morpeth and Northumberland.
The first event will be a Morpeth Boys versus Morpeth Girls, aged six to 13, battle match.
For enquiries and payment of Kids Summer Chess Camp, call Mr Storey on 07719 070349.
Each day starts at 10am and finishes at 4.30pm.
