Churches come together for Easter worship

Churches will come together in Morpeth and Ponteland tomorrow to begin their Easter worship.

Both communities will mark Good Friday with solemn processions and short services, ahead of the festivities on Sunday.

In Ponteland, there will be choral meditation at St Mary’s Church at 10.30am, before the traditional Raising of the Cross on Coates Green at 11.15am.

Morpeth Churches Together will begin a Procession of Witness at St James’s Church at 11.30am, ending at the Market Place at about 11.45am for a short service. Hot cross buns will be served afterwards.

There will also be an ecumenical dawn service in the Market Place at 6am on Easter Sunday, followed by breakfast.

The Easter services are as follows:

Morpeth

Morpeth Baptist Church, Abbeyfields First School, Kirkhill: Easter Sunday, 10.45am.

Morpeth Methodist Church, Howard Terrace: Good Friday, 6pm, Meditation service. Easter Sunday, 8am, Holy Communion; 10am, traditional service; 6.30pm, Prayer and Reflection service.

New Life Christian Centre, Dacre Street: Easter Sunday, 10.30am, Easter celebration and Communion.

St George’s United Reformed Church, Bridge Street: Easter Sunday, 10.30am.

St James’s Church, Wellway: Easter Sunday, 8am, Holy Communion.

St Mary’s Church, Kirkhill: Easter Sunday, 10am, joint parish Communion.

St Robert’s Roman Catholic Church, Oldgate: Easter Saturday, 8pm, Solemn Easter Vigil and Mass of the Resurrection. Easter Sunday, 9am, Easter Mass for all the family; 11am, Easter Mass.

Hebron

St Cuthbert’s Church, Hebron: Good Friday, 9.30am meditation. Easter Sunday, 5pm, Holy Communion with hymns.

Mitford

St Mary Magdalene Church, Mitford: Good Friday, noon, three hours’ Vigil. Easter Sunday, 8.30am, Holy Communion; 10am Family Communion.

Ponteland

Ponteland Methodist Church, Main Street: Good Friday, 10am. Easter Sunday, 6am, sunrise service at Bolam Lake; 10am, Communion.

St Mary The Virgin Church, Coates Green: Good Friday, 10.30am, reflective morning service; Easter Sunday, 10am Festal Communion.

Holy Saviour Church, Milbourne: Good Friday, 2pm, meditation. Easter Sunday, 11.15am Holy Communion.

St Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church, West Road: Easter Sunday, 10.30am.
