Close encounters of the exotic kind

CLOSE encounters with exotic animals will be offered at Heighley Gate Nursery and Garden Centre.

Volunteers from The Sanctuary Wildlife Care Centre at Ulgham will be visiting the outlet, off the A697, throughout its Best Friends pet event.

And they will be accompanied by a barn owl, snake and skunk next Thursday and Friday.

The event aims to promote responsible pet ownership and The Sanctuary staff will highlight the scale of unwanted exotic pets in the region, give short informal talks about the animals they care for and provide advice on looking after pets.

Representatives from the animal rescue centre will be at the garden centre from Thursday, September 6 to Sunday, September 9, and from Thursday, September 20 to Sunday, September 23, from noon to 3pm each day.

They will take along animals on September 6, 7, 20 and 21.
