FIREFIGHTERS have lit up a Northumberland village with a fund-raising family fun day.
The event was held at Pegswood Community Fire Station on Saturday to raise funds for The Firefighters’ Charity and the special care baby unit at Wansbeck General Hospital.
Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service organised the event, which included firefighter demonstrations, children’s inflatables and swings, a driving simulator and a firefighter challenge for visitors to try.
Newbiggin Brass Band provided the musical entertainment.
The event has been hailed a success and so far has raised an impressive £2,000 for the charities.
Acting Chief Fire Officer Alex Bennett said: “The event was a great success and we’re pleased that so many people chose to come along and support our fund-raising efforts. The day took place at one of Northumberland’s new community fire stations so it was a good opportunity for members of the public to take a look at this state-of-the-art facility.”
Northumberland County Council’s Executive Member for Public Protection Anita Romer said: “Lots of people came along to this fantastic event, which raised money for two worthy causes.
“The day also gave members of the public the chance to see a snapshot of the varied work carried out by Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service.”
