MORE than £600 has been raised for a cancer charity in two council fund-raising events.
Northumberland County Council Chairman Jim Smith nominated Macmillan Cancer Support as his chosen charity to provide practical, medical and financial support for cancer patients.
A total of £611 was raised through a Swing for Bling charity golf tournament and a cake and raffle stall.
The golf event at Morpeth Golf Club attracted 23 participants, including council staff.
It was won by Northumberland Sport, with the council’s Human Resources and Highways team a close second. Morpeth Golf Club donated a free round to the winning team, which also claimed the Healthier Together Trophy.
The golf day raised £135.
The remaining £476 came from the stall at County Hall, which was supported by councillors and staff.
Coun Smith said: “Thank you to all those who supported this wonderful charity on both days. All those involved did a fantastic job, from those who baked a cake to the golfers.”
“Macmillan Cancer Support is a truly deserving charity and we are happy to help it to do its work.”
