MORPETH Town Council may be set to join the battle over the new traffic lights.
Member David Parker attended the public meeting about the signals last week to represent the authority and listen to local views.
He said that the council has deliberately not taken a view on the calls to reinstate the roundabout so far, but it is due to discuss the issue next week and will take account of public opinion.
Coun Parker said: “Part of the town council’s role is to be a community leader. The town council as a whole says that is a very important part of its work. It doesn’t just provide services, it is there to lead the town.
“If it is going to lead the town it clearly must be in contact with people and listening to them.
“It must be seeking and responding to the views of the people of the town.”
