The Union flag has been hoisted across Northumberland to show support for Scotland staying in the UK.

Northumberland County Council Leader Grant Davey raised the flag at County Hall in Morpeth last week and gave instructions for it to fly in towns across the county, including at the Border. It comes as Scotland votes in a referendum to decide whether it becomes independent.

Coun Davey said: “We have decided to show the ultimate wish to remain as united neighbours in harmony across the length of our border with Scotland by flying the Union flag.”
