MEMBERS of Northumberland County Council’s Executive Board have approved the introduction of more flexibility on the payment of council tax.
From April, residents who pay either council tax or non domestic rates by direct debit will have the option to pay on the 28th of the month, as well as the 1st or 15th of the month.
And there will be the option to pay over 12 months rather than the current ten.
A decision to raise the court costs and fees to £50 each for those that default on their council tax or rates will be deferred until it has been discussed with the North Tyneside authority so that the same level of costs is applied.
However the Economic Prosperity and Strategic Services Overview and Scrutiny Committee considered £50 to be excessive and recommended £40.
